brooke & steven take san diego
Aaaand here we are, back to reality. You guys, this trip was so so good and unfortunately, all too short. I had the pleasure of going with my best friend ever which is always the best because I rarely get to see him since he lives so far away! 🙁 We always have so much fun and it was much needed after the craziness of finals. Which now feels very distant, so mission accomplished.
The first day we got in around dinner time and I was hungry for pasta so we found a really yummy Italian restaurant called Biga. When I look for restaurants, I usually start with looking for vegan places but if none are around or sound appealing, I’ll go for whatever sounds good and try to find/adapt items on their menu to be vegan. Luckily, their Pomodoro was free of dairy and oh so delicious.
The next day was our only full day so we had to make the most of it. We started off by going somewhere that I have been DYING to try: Café Gratitude. And let me tell you, it exceeded my expectations by a landslide. I heard about this cute restaurant from my favorite health girl on Instagram (you guys already know, @shutthekaleup where it’s at). She always talks about eating there on her insta stories but she’s not vegan so I was really excited to find out that EVERYTHING is plant-based. I obviously had to try their matcha latte which is always my go-to. This was my first of three green drinks I had that day, hehe. I always hear about people eating bad on vacations but it’s actually the opposite for me: I always end up eating healthier because I am so excited to try all the health spots in the area. And this one did not disappoint. My only complaint is that they don’t have one closer to home!!
Next stop was the beach! More on this later because I am sharing alllllll the pictures in an upcoming post.
We wanted to make a quick stop in La Jolla while we were in the area, but ended up loving it and spent quite a bit of time there. It was pretty busy for only being a Wednesday and tons of people were by the water. We saw a girl with sunflower seeds feeding squirrels and they were coming right up to her hand to eat them. On the way back we saw she had two little kids doing the same which had me a bit worried. Also the squirrels reminded me of Darla and I missed her. (She is sleeping next to me as we speak, belly up and paws in the air, hehe. She is the cutest sleeper!!). We shopped around, had a green juice and saw tons of G-wagons, my absolute faaaaaaaavorite and self-proclaimed future mom car.
On our way back to San Diego, we caught a glimpse of the traffic and said no-way-Jose. To kill time while traffic died down we shopped around at Westfield UTC, which is a gorgeous mall. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but if you enjoy shopping in your free time and are in the area, this one is an absolute winner. I love outdoor malls, and this one was so modern with a really good selection of stores. They even had a Tesla store which had me swooning over their new SUV. It ended up getting super cold and raining and I wasn’t wearing the warmest clothes so I had to get a sweatshirt. I tried SO hard to find us matching ones (because matching is the funnest) but they only had girl ones so that was a fail. They also had a Teavanna store, so a second round of matcha for me, this time with water, made for my third green drink of the day. Which ended up being a win. 😉
By the end of the day we were exhausted so we ordered in before waking up super early to head home! Such a good trip, I am so glad that we went. Also so so fortunate to have such amazing friends!!!
I hope that you guys have a great rest of your day, and start of the week! Today I am headed to the gym, doing a little work at home and then heading to work later in the day. Grateful for this little break in between starting summer classes, but kind of can’t wait to get started because I love staying super busy. I will see you guys all next Monday! ♡♡
